FAQs

How accurate is Orbital´s spill detection?

We know that false alarms have been a headache for many clients. That’s why we place extreme emphasis on analysis quality. The accuracy of our service was independently audited by the Fujairah Research Center (FRC) in the UAE in 2022. The audit consisted of a 6‑month validation campaign. We detected oil spills in Fujairah Bay, and the Center’s technicians went out by boat to take photos and samples. After the audit, the FRC confirmed an oil spill detection accuracy above 95%.That is the accuracy we can guarantee when monitoring your area of interest.

How many satellite images can you take over my area of interest?

Satellite revisit frequency depends on several factors, such as area size, latitude, and average annual cloud cover. If you share your area, we will run a quick study and give you coverage data. Today it is possible to take between 4 and 8 images per day over an area — but keep in mind that the number of images impacts the final price.

How fast will I receive the information?

Delivery speed is flexible and can be adapted to your needs and budget. If your operations are very close to shore, we can deliver information 30–40 minutes after satellite overpass. If operations are farther offshore, giving more reaction time, we recommend a system with deliveries 2–3 hours after each overpass.

Can I receive the information directly in my GIS system?

The short answer is YES. We will connect to your platform via API so you can integrate the results into your own system.

Will I receive training to use your web platform?

Our web platform, EOS Viewer, is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. In any case, you and your team will receive initial training until you feel fully confident using the system.

How many satellites does Orbital use?

Today we have agreements with 15 operators, giving us access to 115 Earth observation satellites. And that’s as of today — satellites are launched every month and capacity keeps growing.
